Cruvero License FAQ
This project is licensed under the Business Source License 1.1 (BSL 1.1). This document explains, in plain English, what that means.
What can I do without a commercial license?
You can use Cruvero for free if you are doing any of the following:
- Running Cruvero internally for yourself or your company, at any scale
- Developing, testing, or evaluating the software
- Using Cruvero for non-commercial academic or research work
- Contributing fixes or improvements back to the project
- Building and running your own applications or agents on top of Cruvero, where Cruvero acts as internal infrastructure and is not the product you sell to others
In short: using Cruvero to power your own systems is allowed.
What can I NOT do without a commercial license?
You must obtain a separate commercial license if you want to:
- Offer Cruvero as a hosted or managed service (for example, “Cruvero Cloud”)
- Embed Cruvero into a commercial product that you sell or license to others
- Resell, redistribute, or white-label Cruvero as part of another platform
- Sell consulting, support, or professional services where Cruvero itself is the primary deliverable
In short: you cannot sell Cruvero itself or sell services centered on it without permission.
When does the license change?
Each released version of Cruvero automatically converts to the Apache License, Version 2.0 four years after its release date.
After that date, that version becomes fully open source under Apache 2.0, with no usage restrictions.
Why use BSL?
BSL allows the project to remain source-available and community-friendly while preventing cloud providers or competitors from commercializing the software without contributing back.
I’m not sure if my use case is allowed—what should I do?
If your use case is unclear, reach out to the Licensor (Roy Gabriel) to clarify or to discuss a commercial license.
This FAQ is informational only and does not replace the LICENSE file.
